The rye bread marriage: How I found happiness with a partner i'll never understand.
Thursday
Oct. 17, 5 PM
How can two life partners who see the world through contradictory sets of stories, manage to stay together –and flourish-- decade after decade? Join us on October 17 from 5-7 pm, when local writer and teacher, MIchaele Weissman, discusses her highly readable and acclaimed memoir, The Rye Bread Marriage – How I found happiness with a partner I’ll never understand. Her book weaves together the story of her husband’s family’s flight from Latvia when he was a small child, his obsession with the rye bread of his homeland, and the author’s more conventional American upbringing while examining their struggle as a couple to find common ground. She’ll also talk about the challenges of writing a memoir and answer questions from the audience. She might even bring along some Latvian rye bread. Free and open to the public. Brought to you by the Friends of the Chevy Chase Library.
Michale Weissman is a widely published journalist in national newspapers and magazines. This is her fourth book. You can order “The Rye Bread Marriage” and her other books by clicking the link on Michaele’s website: www.michaeleweissmanwrites.com.

Are you covered? Health insurance issues for seniors
Thursday
Oct. 24, 2:30-4:30
Aging Well means being prepared for health challenges we may face. Medicare is a key part of the equation, but we may also need to consider other kinds of insurance. Please join us for a panel discussion on coverage for such eventualities. Our speakers include Paula Gibson, attorney and founder of the Gibson Mediation Group; Mark A. Gottlieb, an independent insurance expert, who will talk about medical insurance options available during this Medicare enrollment/re-enrollment season, and Meagan Sexton, a financial advisor with Edward Jones, who will discuss financial planning as it relates to disability insurance and long-term care insurance. These professionals will provide tips to make sure you have covered all the bases. Free and open to the public.
